Barcode Scanning Help

Get the most out of Bartendie's barcode scanning feature with these tips and solutions.

How Barcode Scanning Works

Bartendie's scanner uses your device's camera to:

  1. Capture product barcodes (UPC, EAN, etc.)
  2. Query our product database
  3. Match codes to known products
  4. Retrieve product information
  5. Add items to your inventory

Optimizing Scan Performance

Environmental Factors

For best results, ensure:

  • Adequate lighting: Barcode should be well-lit
  • Stable position: Hold device steady
  • Appropriate distance: 4-8 inches from barcode
  • Correct angle: Slightly angled (10-15°) rather than perpendicular
  • Clean lens: Keep camera lens free of smudges
  • Flat surface: Flatten curved labels when possible

Device Settings

Optimize your device for scanning:

  1. Go to "Settings" > "Scanning"
  2. Configure preferences:
    • Auto-focus priority
    • Flash settings
    • Scan vibration feedback
    • Audio confirmation
    • Auto-retry options
