Creating Recipes
This guide explains how to add and manage cocktail recipes in Bartendie.
What Makes a Recipe
In Bartendie, a complete recipe includes:
- Basic Information: Name, description, source
- Ingredients: List with precise measurements
- Preparation Steps: Mixing and serving instructions
- Glassware: Recommended serving vessel
- Garnish: Finishing touches for presentation
- Tags: Categories and classifications
Adding a New Recipe
Step 1: Access the Recipe Creation Screen
- From the main dashboard, tap "Recipes"
- Tap the "+" button in the bottom right corner
Step 2: Enter Basic Information
Fill in the following fields:
- Recipe Name: What you call this drink
- Description: Brief overview of the drink
- Source: Where you found or created this recipe
- Notes (optional): Any additional information
Step 3: Add Ingredients
- Tap "Add Ingredient"
- For each ingredient:
- Select the ingredient from your inventory or the ingredient database
- Specify the amount
- Choose the unit of measurement (oz, ml, parts, etc.)
- Add any special notes about the ingredient
- Arrange ingredients in mixing order using drag handles
Step 4: Define Preparation Method
- Tap "Add Preparation Steps"
- Enter each step in sequence
- Include specific techniques (shake, stir, muddle, etc.)
- Specify timing or special considerations
Step 5: Set Serving Details
- Select glassware from the dropdown
- Describe ice requirements
- Add garnish details
- Include presentation notes
Step 6: Add Tags and Categories
- Tap "Add Tags"
- Select from existing tags or create new ones:
- Base spirit (gin, whiskey, etc.)
- Style (sour, fizz, old fashioned, etc.)
- Flavor profile (sweet, bitter, refreshing, etc.)
- Occasion (brunch, dinner, holiday, etc.)
- Season (summer, winter, etc.)
Step 7: Save the Recipe
Tap "Save Recipe" to add it to your collection.
Importing Recipes
From the Recipe Database
- From the Recipes screen, tap "Import"
- Browse or search the recipe database
- Tap "Add to My Recipes" for any you want to save
From External Sources
- From the Recipes screen, tap "Import"
- Select "External Import"
- Choose from:
- URL import
- Photo scan
- Manual entry from a book
Editing Recipes
To modify an existing recipe:
- Open the recipe from your collection
- Tap "Edit" in the top-right corner
- Make your changes
- Tap "Save" to update
Recipe Variations
Create alternate versions of recipes:
- Open the original recipe
- Tap the menu icon (three dots)
- Select "Create Variation"
- Modify ingredients or preparation
- Name your variation
- Tap "Save as New Recipe"
Using Your Inventory for Recipe Creation
When creating recipes based on what you have:
- From the Recipes screen, tap "Create from Inventory"
- Select the spirits or ingredients you want to use
- Bartendie will suggest possible recipes
- Select one to customize or use as-is
Tips for Creating Great Recipes
- Be precise with measurements for consistent results
- List ingredients in the order they're used
- Test recipes before serving to guests
- Add detailed notes about specific brands when relevant
- Use descriptive names that indicate the style or main ingredients
- Take photos of successful executions
- Rate your recipes after making them
